Accessibility

Our commitment to an online shopping experience that is perceivable, operable, understandable and robust for as many people as possible.

Last updated 25 July 2026 Applies to https://www.horizonsuperstore.co.uk

AT A GLANCE

  • The store supports keyboard navigation and visible focus states.
  • Light and dark modes are available across the shopping experience.
  • We welcome reports of barriers and requests for an alternative format.

Plain language, full protection. These documents are designed to be readable. Nothing in them limits rights that cannot legally be limited.

Our commitment

Horizon wants everyone to be able to browse products, understand information, manage a basket and complete a purchase with dignity and independence. We are working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA as the technical benchmark for this website.

Accessibility is an ongoing responsibility rather than a one-time project. We consider it when designing pages, choosing technology, adding product content and fixing defects.

Need help now?

If a barrier prevents you from accessing information or placing or managing an order, contact us. We will try to provide reasonable assistance or the information in a suitable alternative format.

Current conformance status

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means that some content or components may not yet fully meet the standard.

This statement reflects an initial internal review of the custom theme and representative shopping features. It is not a claim that every product page, third-party component or historic item has passed a complete independent accessibility audit.

What we aim to support

Across the Horizon experience, we aim to provide:

  • keyboard access to navigation, links, controls, forms and the shopping journey;
  • visible keyboard focus indicators;
  • logical headings, landmarks and page titles;
  • labels or accessible names for interactive controls;
  • text and controls with sufficient colour contrast;
  • light and dark display modes;
  • responsive layouts that reflow on smaller screens and at increased zoom;
  • meaningful alternative text for informative images;
  • error messages that identify the problem and explain how to correct it;
  • support for browser text resizing and common assistive technologies; and
  • reduced or non-essential motion where a device requests reduced motion.

The exact experience can vary by browser, device, assistive technology and third-party payment or delivery service.

Known limitations

We are continuing to identify and address issues. Areas that may not yet fully conform include:

  • Supplier-provided product content: some images, diagrams, instructions or product descriptions may have incomplete alternative text, unclear structure or text embedded in an image.
  • Third-party components: payment, fraud-checking, tracking or embedded tools may not offer the same level of accessibility as the Horizon theme.
  • Product variation controls: some colour, size or option interfaces may require further refinement for screen-reader and keyboard users.
  • Historic or uploaded documents: a supplier manual, PDF or other attachment may not be fully tagged or optimised for assistive technology.
  • Status and validation messages: some dynamically updated basket, stock or checkout messages may not always be announced consistently by every assistive-technology combination.

We prioritise barriers that block product information, basket use, checkout, account access, order tracking and customer support. Reporting a specific page and the task you were trying to complete helps us reproduce and fix the issue.

Alternative formats and reasonable adjustments

You can ask us for reasonable support, including product or policy information in a more accessible electronic format, help understanding an order status, or another reasonable way to complete a customer-service step.

We may need to discuss the most useful format with you. We will not ask for more information about a disability than is reasonably necessary to understand and provide the requested adjustment.

Report an accessibility problem

Email support@horizonsuperstore.co.uk and use the subject line “Accessibility”. If possible, include:

  • the page address or product name;
  • what you were trying to do;
  • what went wrong and any error message;
  • your browser, device and assistive technology, if you are comfortable sharing them; and
  • the format or adjustment that would help.

We aim to acknowledge accessibility messages within five working days and will explain the next step or expected resolution time. Complex fixes or issues controlled by a third party may take longer, but we will try to offer a practical alternative in the meantime.

Compatibility and technical approach

The website is designed for current versions of major browsers and commonly used assistive technologies. Older browsers or highly customised combinations may not receive the full visual experience, but core information and shopping tasks should remain available wherever reasonably possible.

Accessibility depends on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WordPress, WooCommerce and third-party services working together. We use semantic structure and native controls where practical, and add accessible names, states and focus management to custom components.

Assessment and review

This statement was prepared on 25 July 2026 following an internal review of the theme structure, keyboard-focus treatment, responsive design and the legal-page experience. Representative shopping journeys and third-party components should be reassessed as the store evolves.

We plan to review this statement at least annually and after a material redesign, checkout change or accessibility issue affecting a critical journey. The date at the top will change when the statement is materially updated.
