Where information comes from

Most information comes directly from you when you browse, create an account, place an order, join a mailing list, write a review or contact us. We may also receive information from:

  • payment providers, banks and fraud-prevention services;
  • suppliers, fulfilment partners, delivery companies and returns providers;
  • account sign-in or checkout providers you choose to use;
  • cookies and similar technologies used on the website;
  • public sources and authorities where necessary for fraud or legal compliance; and
  • another person who orders a gift for you or names you as the recipient.

If you give us another person’s details, please make sure you are allowed to do so and that they know how to find this policy.

Supplier fulfilment and AliExpress

Some Horizon products are sourced through AliExpress or other third-party supply partners and may be shipped directly by a supplier. To arrange fulfilment we may provide the relevant supplier or fulfilment service with the recipient’s name, delivery address, telephone number where needed by the courier, ordered product, quantity and order reference.

Limited-purpose sharing

Supply partners receive order information so they can prepare and dispatch the parcel. They are not authorised by us to use that information for their own marketing. Horizon remains responsible for handling your customer-service and privacy enquiries.

Supplier platforms may also process account, transaction and compliance information under their own privacy terms when we use their service. We assess the information needed for each fulfilment route and seek to minimise what is shared.

Who we share information with

We share personal information only where needed for a legitimate purpose, including with:

  • Suppliers and fulfilment partners that prepare and dispatch products;
  • postal, courier and tracking providers that deliver and update parcels;
  • payment providers and banks that authorise payments, issue refunds and prevent fraud;
  • website, hosting, email, customer-support and security providers that help us operate Horizon;
  • analytics and marketing providers where enabled and permitted by your choices and applicable law;
  • professional advisers and insurers where reasonably necessary;
  • regulators, courts, law-enforcement and tax authorities where disclosure is legally required or necessary to protect rights; and
  • a buyer or successor in a genuine sale, restructure or transfer of the business, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data-protection safeguards.

We do not sell personal information in the ordinary meaning of exchanging it for money.

International transfers

Because Horizon uses international technology, supplier and delivery networks, personal information may be accessed or processed outside the United Kingdom. In particular, a direct-fulfilment supplier may be located in China or another country whose data-protection laws differ from UK law.

Where UK data-protection law requires a transfer safeguard, we use an applicable lawful mechanism such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or UK Addendum to approved standard contractual clauses, together with supplementary measures where appropriate. In limited cases, a specific legal exception may apply.

You may contact us for more information about the safeguards relevant to your information.

How long we keep information

We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, including legal, accounting, tax, warranty, fraud-prevention and dispute requirements. Typical periods are:

RecordTypical period
Orders, payments, refunds and tax recordsUsually six years after the end of the relevant transaction or accounting period
Customer accountWhile active, then deleted or anonymised after a reasonable inactivity period unless records must be retained
Support, complaint and warranty recordsFor the life of the issue and a reasonable period afterwards, usually up to six years where a legal claim may arise
Marketing subscriptionUntil you unsubscribe; a minimal suppression record may then be retained so we respect that choice
Security and technical logsUsually a short operational period unless needed to investigate abuse, fraud or an incident
Browser storageAs described in our Cookie Policy

We may keep information longer where the law requires it, a dispute is active, or it is needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. We may anonymise data so it no longer identifies anyone and use that anonymous information for statistics.

Marketing choices

We may send marketing by email or similar electronic means where you have consented or where the law otherwise permits it. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link in a message or contacting us. Opting out of marketing does not stop service messages about your account, order, delivery, return or security.

We will not pass your contact details to an unrelated organisation for its own direct marketing without the permission required by law.

Cookies and browser storage

Horizon uses cookies and similar browser storage to keep the basket and checkout working, maintain sessions, remember choices such as light or dark mode and wishlist items, secure the website, and understand order sources. Optional technologies are used only where permitted.

Our Cookie Policy lists the technologies currently associated with the store, their purposes and typical duration.

Your data-protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law gives you the right to:

  • be informed about how your personal information is used;
  • request access to the information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct incomplete or inaccurate information;
  • ask us to erase information where there is no good reason to keep using it;
  • ask us to restrict how information is used;
  • receive certain information in a portable format or ask us to transfer it;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests and object at any time to direct marketing;
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier lawful processing; and
  • ask for safeguards relating to a solely automated decision that has legal or similarly significant effects.

These rights are not absolute and exemptions may apply. We may ask for proportionate information to confirm identity. We normally respond within one month and do not charge a fee unless a request is manifestly unfounded, excessive or repeated.

Questions and complaints

Please contact us first so we have an opportunity to address your concern: support@horizonsuperstore.co.uk.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority. Visit ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or call 0303 123 1113. You may complain to another competent data-protection authority if you live or work elsewhere.

Security

We use organisational and technical measures intended to protect personal information against accidental loss, unauthorised access, alteration and disclosure. Access is limited to people and service providers who need it for their role and are subject to appropriate duties.

No internet service is completely secure. Protect your account with a unique password, do not share verification codes, and contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorised activity. We have procedures for assessing personal-data incidents and notifying affected people or regulators where the law requires.

Children

Horizon is a general-audience retail service and is not directed at children. A person under 18 should not create an account or place an order without the involvement of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly use children’s personal information for behavioural advertising.

If you believe a child has provided personal information improperly, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Changes to this policy

We review this policy when our services, suppliers or legal obligations change. We will post the updated version here and change the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information already collected, we will provide an additional notice where appropriate.

Please check this page periodically and make sure the contact information in your account remains accurate.
